Dr. Puja Kapoor,director & co-founder CONTINUA Kids, Consultant pediatric neurologist, presented her paper on \” Behavioral manifestation of levetiracitam in autistic children with seizures: A retrospective analysis \” in NCDP 2019, Pune. She also presented four research posters in the conference.
Study was done on 60 autistic children, who had seizures and used levetiracetam in doses from 20 to 40 mg per kg as treatment. Eighty percent of them showed hyperactivity, increase in temper tantrums, increase in aggressiveness and impulsivity.
It was concluded in her study that levetiracetam should not be used in autistic children, in higher doses, as it can precipitate behavioral disorders in them.
