It was a walkathon with a difference for raising awareness about managing children with special needs. It was an
inclusive participation of especially abled children, their wellwishers, medical fraternity, corporates, walked together to pledge to make surroundings better friendly for the people with special needs.
The event was flagged off by Shri Harbhajan Singh, Director General & Corporate Affairs, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd. The company has large projects going across Delhi & NCR to support the sensitive cause of special needs children. Speaking on the occasion Mr Singh said, “There is so much more to be done in the society than what is being really done by the government, it is here that the importance and role of corporate social responsibility in the companies make a significant bridge. At Honda, we have a monthly CSR budget and we are happy to use it in the right way to reach out to the needy through organisations like Continua Kids.’’ Resonating the sentiment of CSR was Neeraj Kapoor, Senior Branch Head Panasonic India, “I believe in serving back to the society and with Continua Kids found an association for spreading the message of care and raising awareness for special needs children.
Continua Kids, one of its kind centre in Gurgaon run by an experienced team of medical practitioners, supported by expert coaches in the field of yoga, music and different alternative therapies. Continua in a short span is known for its best practices to work on the children with special needs. “Not just the children, it is equally or more important to counsel and train parents or caregivers of these children so that the children are groomed to become self-sufficient and gain confidence in themselves,’’ says Dr Himani, the Paediatrician, trained in children with special needs. It was heart-warming to see these special children participate in the walkathon with all their enthusiasm and might. Neetu, who likes to be called Karishma Kapoor by her friends is a young teenager. Despite her multiple physical challenges she not just participated but also completed the walkathon. Many like she walked in the event as a part of the inclusive awareness programme.
